Acaps Ltd recently completed a complete commercial hot water system upgrade, removing two existing A.O. Smith gas-fired water heaters and replacing them with a new Lochinvar Amicus AquaStore heat pump water heater.
The project was designed to provide a modern, efficient hot water solution while removing the reliance on the existing gas-fired equipment.

Complete Mechanical Installation
This was a complete installation project undertaken by the Acaps team, rather than simply replacing the water heating equipment.
Our works included:
- Removal and disposal of the existing A.O. Smith water heaters
- Decommissioning and removal of the existing gas services
- Removal and alteration of existing pipework
- Installation of the new Amicus AquaStore heat pump water heater
- Installation of new hot and cold water pipework
- Connection to the existing commercial hot water system
- Associated valves, controls and mechanical components
- Electrical and mechanical connections associated with the new equipment
- Testing and commissioning of the completed system
The Amicus AquaStore is specifically designed for domestic hot water applications in small to medium-sized commercial buildings. The unit incorporates a 445-litre insulated storage vessel and an 8kW heat pump, with the manufacturer specifying hot water production up to 65°C in heat pump/hybrid mode.

Moving Away From Gas-Fired Hot Water
Replacing older gas-fired water heaters with a heat pump water heating system can provide businesses with an opportunity to modernise their hot water infrastructure and reduce their reliance on combustion-based equipment.
The Amicus AquaStore produces hot water with zero on-site carbon or NOx emissions, and the manufacturer’s literature identifies the system as suitable for BREEAM projects.
For this project, Acaps managed the mechanical works from removal of the existing equipment through to installation and commissioning of the replacement system, giving the client a single contractor responsible for the complete installation.
